CATPRO systems utilize Microsoft SQL Server to store the data that is acquired by the inspection system. In some cases, where product traceability is required, a large storage capacity is required. In these cases, database sizes up to 500GB are standard, with larger storage capacity available as an option. In situations where storage requirements are reduced, the Microsoft SQL Native Client is utilized, providing the same functionality as the full SQL server package, but with a storage size restriction. This saves a significant amount of cost in lower priced systems.

The SQL database is used to store all inspection result data and images. It is also used to store part inspection recipes. It is optional to store images from the inspection process. Each inspection module can be configured to store images for each inspection, only for inspections that fail, or to save no images at all. Images stored in the database are compressed using a Jpeg compression algorithm. Storage requirements for the images per part vary by product and configuration, but a typical requirement is approximately 7mb per part for all images from a 6000 or 7000 series system.
